Process and planning

My initial research question was  "In what ways can colours influence the way you perceive groups of people?", I still am using this question however the way I wanted to answer this question has changed. Initially, I wanted to make 3 eyeshadow palettes, each representing a city however I felt like cultures among cities vary from person to person and are perceived differently by different people. Because of this, I decided to change my plan to make 5 eyeshadow palettes, each representing a faction from a film, Divergent. Each faction in the film has different functions, such as bravery, intelligence, honesty etc. My goal is to make 5 eyeshadow palettes from scratch and use the colours to help portray certain cultural or personal traits. The colours themselves can express or portray certain characteristic traits, however, the way or style the makeup can be applied with may also vary the way you interpret someone. My goal is to see how eyeshadow can impact the way one is perceived, and how it expresses characteristics. The global context I chose for this project is Personal and cultural expression. I felt like this was relevant as its a form of non-verbal communication regarding personalities, cultures and perceptions. I started by researching online, different recipes for eyeshadow. Once I found a good recipe, I ordered the products off of amazon, and then finally made the eyeshadow. Each palette took about 45 minutes to make as it takes a long time to mix all the products well and pack it into the palettes. Often the product would set very liquidy so I kept having to re do it. Once I had finished the palettes, I applied the product to my eyes and made 5 looks with all 5 palettes. Then I made a survey, sent it out and received results regarding the ways people interpreted the looks and colours.  While doing my research about a color theory I learned a lot about how you unconsciously can make assumptions about people based on the colors they wore, this was really fascinating to me and boosted my motivation to see how I could convey cultures and ideas about people myself.
